History
During the summer of 2003, the first beginnings of ShockWave were developed. Only a personal modification at the time, The_Hunter modified the game as he saw fit and in 2005 decided to release the modification to the public. After a few years and tons of fans later, (as of January 2008) ShockWave stands with a whopping 106600+ downloads (with version 0.95 taking 22300+ alone) with countless of eager fans awaiting for it's next version.
As the team developed and attained new staff members, the team began work on WarGames Zero:Hour, a total conversion modification that revives the old PC game WarGames, released by InterActive Studios on Jun 1998. The modification pits N.O.R.A.D. and W.O.P.R. into war once again, this time using the Zero Hour engine. The project was led by both The_Hunter and Rade to bring back the game to its former glory in the SAGE engine.
Finally, the latest addition to the team, Rise of the Reds (RotR), a project long in development, had both The_Hunter and Comr4de part of the team since its early days of development. Once the first version of Rise of the Reds was released, the activity of the team declined, leaving only a few to work on the project. After a few ideas where thrown in, The_Hunter and Comr4de took co-leadership of the project and not only resurrected it but gave it a complete overhaul. In addition to the originally added Russian Federation the European Continental Army was added after a merger with the Rise of Europe modification.
It was thereafter that the idea of a unified team was fully realized. After the Rise of the Reds modification was re-established under its new management, this made Rise of the Reds the third modification to work under the team but without an established name to give the team. Therefore, in summer 2007 the modification teams took on the new name of SWR Productions for their entity, rather than to be referred to as just the ShockWave team. Within the SWR team is it not unusual for members to concentrate on a single modification as opposed to working on all three of the projects.
On 6 June 2009, SWR left Fallout Studios to set up their own community.
Meaning of the name
The name is derived from the first letters of each of the modifications the team worked on at the time of founding. The letters were placed in chronological order, namely: ShockWave, WarGames Zero Hour and Rise of the Reds. The team then chose Productions to add to the title to complete the name.
On Nov 16, 2007, SWR Productions first appeared at ModDB, and the name now appears in every SWR Project as the developer.
SWR projects
SWR Productions is currently working on the following modifications:
C&C ShockWave
Shockwave is the oldest SWR modification and work on it began way before the founding of SWR, shortly after the release of Command & Conquer: Generals. At the beginning it was only the modification of The_Hunter and Deathstrike but eventually turned into a big project with a large team, most of which eventually became part of SWR. The latest version, 0.95, added the 3 new generals and was released on 22 December 2007. ShockWave aims to balance and enhance Zero Hour without significantly altering the original game.
Shockwave adds over 100 new units, structures, abilities, general powers and 3 new generals to Zero Hour.
WarGames Zero:Hour
Work on this modification had begun in early 2006 by The_Hunter, Rade and a few other entrusted people, with the aim of recreating WarGames on the Zero Hour SAGE engine. Later on the entire SWR team became involved with the project. The whole project was revealed and the first version, sporting a near-complete N.O.R.A.D side, was released on The_Hunter's birthday, 16 March 2007. As of Summer 2008 there have been no public releases regarding the W.O.P.R. faction.
Rise of the Reds
Members of the SWR team, The_Hunter and Comr4de, were already involved in the old Rise of the Reds version (1.0). In the spring of 2007, The_Hunter and the majority of the remaining team resurrected RotR and decided to start a complete overhaul for version 2.0.
Generals Classic
Generals Classic is the only completed SWR modification and allows players to replay Command & Conquer: Generals in the updated SAGE engine. While worked on as a private project by The_Hunter, Generals Classic is a SWR product as some ShockWave content is used in the modification.
