Rise of the Reds roleplay Round 3 was a game on the Fallout Studios forums relating to the impending release of the newest version of the Rise of the Reds modification by the SWR Productions team. Rise of the Reds roleplay Round 3 was based on the first two Rise of the Reds roleplays that took place in the Spammy Yummy Discussion. With a totally re-imagined set of rules, tactical maps and distinct targets the Rise of the Reds roleplay Round 3 was much more complex and took place in Game Discussion.

History

Round 3 was created following ongoing problems with off-topic behaviour, real-life concerns and varying opinions on rules and events in the first two threads. Of particular note was the fact that events were often open to interpretation by both sides, leading to almost constant arguments and often totally de-railing the topic from the roleplay intended. This lack of structure lead team members Overdose and Dauth to close each of these in turn and finally work on a completely revamped and far more workable replacement. Overdose assumed the role of Game Master, overseeing the progress of the thread and responsible for deciding on the results of actions taken therein. Dauth assisted Overdose in the creation of the thread, notably cooperating to produce the rule set, and initially assumed the position of general of the European Continental Army side. Unfortunately he was very shortly forced to relinquish this position due to time constraints, whereupon Aftershock was chosen as his replacement. CommanderJB was selected as the General of the Russian Federation. As the release of the first public version of SWR's Rise of the Reds drew near, Overdose also became busy with fulfilling his duties as part of the modification team, and the first attempt at Round 3 stalled before the end of the second turn.

Shortly after the release of Rise of the Reds 1.0 SWR Edition, it became apparent that while Overdose was still keen on seeing the roleplay implemented to its full potential he was too busy with the team to take on the Game Master role himself. Instead, CommanderJB was selected as a replacement Game Master by virtue his previous activity and new involvement with the modification upon becoming a staff member, and the scenario was reset. Major rule changes, woked out between CommanderJB and Wizard and incorporating suggestions from Aftershock, were again implemented based on the limited experience gained from the first attempt, new applications were sought, and the roleplay was set under way once again under the new banner of Round 4.

Roles in the Rise of the Reds roleplay Round 3

The European Continental Army and the Russian Federation are the only factions in Round 3 of the Rise of the Reds roleplay, with each faction fielding one General, three Officers and three Commanders. Members must fill out an application form, found in the roleplay's opening post, in order to be eligible to join. Once the ranks are full the positions are closed until either a member of the thread resigns from their position, a member is asked to leave or the Gamemaster decides to change the roleplay and increase the number of participants.

Rules of the Rise of the Reds roleplay Round 3

The rules of the newest version are much more involved than other version and have been submitted in the form of a 6 page file created by Dauth from an original created by Overdose. Upon the reset of Round 3, some minor modifications were made by CommanderJB to this set based on impressions and slight issues with the first attempt and form the basis of Round 4. Overdose has stated that actions must be taken in orders of rank starting with the generals, however within officers the order does not matter.

Contents of the Rise of the Reds roleplay Round 3

Rise of the Reds roleplay Round 3 takes place on two maps, a tactical map and an influence map. The influence map shows the borders of the territories, ports, bases and supply lines. The Tactical map shows these items but also shows individual armies and bridges. The storyline created within the roleplay is independent of the original modification and will use it only as a starting point before moving onward.

Future of the Rise of the Reds roleplay

As of the creation of the Round 3 thread on the forums, Dauth and Overdose have been working on the sequel which will allow a greater number of players and will field the full compliment of Rise of the Reds factions. The development of this version is highly dependent on the commitments of both parties, and the success of the thread itself. Assuming another round is created the gameplay will take place on a world map and include full naval warfare. Overdose has also been recommended to design a board game version and submit it to Hasbro as a commercial venture.
