A typically quiet time in the Fallout Studios IRC Channel
The Fallout Studios IRC channel is a meeting place on IRC where Fallout Studios members can have open discussions in real-time. It was created by CodeCat in June 2006 as an alternative to the forums, where people could chat on a more direct basis. The channel is located on Acidchat, a small IRC network run by jent.

Overview

The IRC channel is staffed by the same people as the forums, with additional help from 'half-ops' who are appointed to keep watch during times of low staff presence. Since the changes made in February 2008, more of the staff members visit the IRC and this in turn has generated more member presence. The IRC channel often becomes more popular when the forums are down for some reason, because generally the channel stays up during that time. This allows people to keep themselves occupied until the forums are restored.

The channel has spawned many of the community's memes including MAJOR FILE and a with hat, euro, colon, both of which have in degrees spread to the Fallout Studios forums. In addition there is a long-running but lighthearted feud between Bob and Gsus. Dauth temporarily joined in with this, furthering a rivalry with Bob and annoying Gsus in the process.

The IRC moderating team

The IRC is moderated by the Fallout Studios Leadership, with CodeCat taking end responsibility as channel owner. In the history of the IRC, few members of the moderating team visited, therefore a number of members were selected as halfops.

Acidchat

The Fallout Studios IRC channel is on the Acidchat network, a small network managed by jent. Acidchat markets itself as a laid back network for gaming socialising and other niche interests. Acidchat runs the ChanServ, NickServ, BotServ, IMServ and MemoServ services. The official Acidchat homepage was offline at the time of writing [1].
