The European Continental Army, ECA for short, is one of the five factions in Rise of the Reds. It has been speculated by fans that the ROTR universe and ShockWave universe share the same timeline, this has not been confirmed but there is believed to be enough evidence to confirm it. The European Union thrived under the territorial acquisitions in Africa and traded with other nations giving it the strongest economy in the world, exceeding their American allies. During this campaign they are invaded by the Russians in an act of war since they have felt betrayed and set aside by their so-called European allies. Their intentions seem to be expansionism and to gain resources for their troubled nation.

Generals

General Wolfgang, Mechanized Assault

During the ECA's involvement of the African territories in the early 2020's, General Wolfgang was the spearhead of many peace-keeping operations throughout the region. There he obtained the nickname of "the Huntsman" for his relentless pursuit of terrorist forces and the overwhelming speed and power of his heavy vehicles. Wolfgang is known to be patient, though he does not hold back when an opportunity arises. Wolfgang is known to rally his forces at a moments notice to take up arms, take action and stampede over his enemies. When the Russians approach the German line, Wolfgang will be there to greet them.

General Willem, Royal Guard

General Willem is the more than just another ECA General; he has been a thorn in the side of the Russian invaders since the first round was fired. He is responsible for nearly all of the ECA defensive network following his extensive experience in Eastern Europe and Africa. First contact for any invading army is an almost inaudible click followed by a large explosion and then a crater where a tank used to be. Specializing in strong defences, reinforced concrete bunkers are the bread and butter of General Willem and his military training only serves to focus his metal as a combat engineer giving him unique insights into and battle. General Willem has also developed a number of new defensive techniques to catch opponents off guard.

General Charles, Fire Support

General Charles finds no sound more appealing than the thuds of a well-oiled howitzer battery. Despising the brutish nature of close combat, the general prefers to engage his enemies from afar by pummeling their positions with many types of highly explosive death. His expertise in coordinating fire support is unmatched and his abilities have been cruical to the success of previous ECA operations against terrorist strongholds in the Middle East. Fortunately for Europe, the massive aerial attacks that destroyed the majority of the ECA air force prior to the Russian invasion left Charles' flying arsenal relatively intact. Charles is a general for the troops; well respected by his battle-hardened division, he prefers to be close to his fellow soldiers, driving them onwards as they seek to extract the very best from their equipment while leaving a lasting impression on the landscape in the process.

Story

During the Zero Hour campaign, when the European Union was in its adolescence, the Union lacked a unified army, being composed only of the independently run armies of each nation. When the GLA overran their installations and took control of most of the continent, there was little the EU could do. It was here that American forces came to help but even they were engulfed in the GLA uprising. The Chinese however prevailed in their effort to liberate Europe and gave their thanks as well as new acquisitions for military installations. During the 2020's that all changed. The European Continental Army was established on May the 22th, 2021. This unified military force encompassed all of Europe's military technology in one force. The Chinese installations in Europe eventually vanished one by one, claiming that Europe could now handle their own and it was only proved further after the African theater took shape.

During this "expansionism" era many nations took the troubled African nations under their wing, provided humanitarian efforts and invested thousands in potential resources. Eventually Europe held the majority of the continent. From these acquisitions Europe thrived with the resources their African "allies" provided. However, as more of the world powers came to place an influence of their own, the Russians pleaded for help in their fight against the GLA. The ECA pledged to help but in reality did little to help, planning to take that territory as their own, and left them to fight amongst themselves.

On December 14, 2033 the Russian Federation, with this plan initiated long ago, invaded the European Union as an act of revenge.

Military Hardware

ROTR will include many fictional and non-fictional units. A loose grip on reality will ensure unique units and abilities to the heavy-weight faction. It has been confirmed that the ECA will sport an array of defensive structures as well as long-range capabilities for offensive strategies.

Tactics

The European Faction will utilize some of the best defenses from any other faction. Early game they'll have a balanced array of offensive capabilities but include some of the "tough-to-crack" defenses.
