April Fools 2008

April Fools 2008 was the third yearly April Fools event on Fallout Studios. It was the first time the members joined in the pranking. During the day, apart from the 'official' Fallout Studios prank, other members took it upon themselves to prank members on their own. As a result, several grassroots efforts sprang up, so it's hard to pinpoint exactly how many distinct 'jokes' there were.

E-Studios quiz

The official E-Studios joke was made in the form of a quiz. Once activated, it became impossible to view the forums without first completing the quiz, which consisted of 16 multiple-choice questions with 5 possible answers each. The questions ranged from E-Studios trivia such as 'What is Stinger's secret identity?' to the nonsensical 'a with hat, euro, colon'. Several questions also made references to the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Some of the questions did not actually have any 'correct' answers, but the correct answer was merely what staff happened to think was funnier.

Together with the quiz, a topic was posted in the forum where members could post the results of their answers and discuss the quiz itself. The reactions were generally positive, although some members did not realise the quiz was a joke. As a result of an oversight by CodeCat, who had written the script for the quiz, some members were forced to complete the quiz several times.

When the day was over, detailed information was posted about the quiz results, including the average scores and answers per question.

The great name change

During the day, many prominent members changed their name to something else, to either fool others or simply because it was funny. Bob and Dauth even swapped names on both the forum and IRC channel, causing much confusion.

Several of the new names referred to public services, such as Postbox, Recycled paper collector and Plumber. These were inspired by The_Hunter, who had changed his name to Mailman a few weeks earlier. Many of the members whose names had changed also changed their avatars to reflect their new identities. These avatars all featured a typical red 'broken' font with yellow glow, which was also inspired by The_Hunter's 'Mailman' avatar.

On the second of April, Dr. Strangelove changed his name to J.R. Bob Dobbs, the difference in time zones meant that this was largely missed.

Happy birthday everyone!

This was a largely-missed joke that also took place that day. Several members had changed their forum birthdays to that day, so that there was now a string of 8 or more names down the bottom of the forum where the birthdays are listed. True to E-Studios style, a birthday topic was posted to congratulate all those members with the big day.
