Races

Dawn of War introduces four races to the player, each with unique strengths and weaknesses.

Space Marines

Main article: Space Marines

Genetically engineered hyper humans, the Space Marines are the shock troops of the Imperium, they are very adaptable and their basic infantry can be equipped with anti infantry, anti vehicle or anti building weapons. The Space Marines aim to eliminate all other races from the galaxy. A Space Marine Force Commander with Chainsword can be seen on the box art.

Chaos Space Marines

Main article: Chaos Space Marines

Chaos Space Marines are Space Marines that have fallen to the ruinous powers of Chaos. They use many of the older Space Marine weapons while supplementing their army with Daemonic forces.

Eldar

Main article: Eldar

The Eldar are a race waning in power, they support the forces of order and form a shaky alliance with the Space Marines. The Eldar use speed and stealth to their advantage however they are weaker in direct confrontations.

Orks

Main article: Orks

The Orks are warmongering melee specialists that attack in large numbers, hacking and shooting enemies with unconstrained glee. While not necessarily the most mobile force, Ork armies can move quickly and are devastating in close combat.

Resource system

There are two resources used by every faction in Dawn of War, in addition to the Ork Resource used specifically by the Orks. The two common resources are Requisition and Power. Power is generated by Plasma Generators, however larger Thermo Plasma Generators are uses on Slag Deposits, these Thermo Plasma Generators generate far more power than basic Plasma Generators. All generators degrade with time, and a Command structure can support up to 6 generators. Requisition is generated by Strategic Points, Critical Locations and Relics, the amount of requisition generated by Strategic Points and Relics can be increased with the addition of Listening Posts, and further with arming the Listening Posts. Requisition and Power are used to pay for units, with requisition generally more important until vehicles are produced when power takes the fore.

Ork Resource is accrued as the game progresses however the maximum is set by the number of Waagh! banners. Ork Resource is required to produce and of the Orks, with more powerful Orks requiring more Ork Resource. In later games several other races use specialist resources.
